This season at leinwände, we translated organic motifs inspired by natural forms into accessories.
One of them is our collaboration with Atelier Senka:
Berry Twins Hair Clip / Berry Twins Necklace, and the Iris Sheer Tie.
Beadwork reminiscent of small berries and softly sculpted floral forms.
The Iris Sheer Tie layers two different materials through delicate handcraft, inspired by pressed iris flowers.
Each piece adds a soft accent to the lightness of spring.
Here, we would like to share the story behind their creation.
Atelier Senka, now celebrating 45 years since its founding.
The atelier is based in a standalone house studio in Todoroki, Setagaya, where the production space, press room, and archive are gathered under one roof.
Dyeing, stitching, sculpting.
All processes are carried out entirely by hand,
The meticulous handcraft and couture techniques unique to Japan continue to be quietly passed down to this day.
Layers of Handcraft
Berry Twins Necklace / Berry Twins Hair Clip are each finished through meticulous handwork.
Even the placement of every single bead is done by hand.
These subtle differences—never perfectly uniform—create a texture reminiscent of real berries.
White fabric is used for the backing, then dyed individually to match the tone of each flower.
The surface is carefully brushed by hand, allowing texture to emerge even on the reverse side.
Within these small motifs, layers of process and time quietly accumulate.
The delicately crafted forms, shaped one by one, carry the presence of antique objects.
Iris Sheer Tie is also born from the same layering of handcraft.
After each petal-shaped fabric piece is attached one by one, original techniques are applied to create an antique-like texture and a more lifelike floral nuance.
The delicacy that can only be achieved through handcraft—not by machines.
Within it, a quiet depth resides.
It can be worn wrapped around the neck like a choker, styled as a head accessory, or even as a belt.
Adding an accent to the lightness of spring.
Inherited Intentions
When asked what they value most in their craft, the answer was simple:
“We hope each piece will be cherished and worn for many years.”
Their enduring theme is “floral adornments that, even as they fade and weather with time, become ever more beloved.”
For that reason, no step—no matter how small—is spared.
Each process is given time and care, finished with intention.
Through this accumulation of handcraft, every piece acquires its own unique expression.
The atelier is home to many younger artisans as well, and it was striking to see techniques passed down across generations.
Beyond the studio, they also serve as guest lecturers at fashion schools.
Some students, after attending their classes, have even knocked on the atelier’s door saying, “I want to work here.”
In the quiet space, each artisan works steadily with their hands.
That steady accumulation continues to live on as assured craftsmanship.
As pieces that gently accompany each wearer over time,
we hope you will enjoy these leinwände × Atelier Senka art pieces for years to come.
About Atelier Senka
Moved by a charming yet timeworn corsage displayed in a small antique shop in a town in France, Atelier Senka’s founder became convinced of the importance of costume accessories as “mode props,” and established the atelier in 1981.
Using ten primary dyes blended in delicate proportions to create an infinite spectrum of color, white fabrics are carefully hand-dyed and sculpted into dimensional floral forms. Created through a distinctly Japanese sensibility, Atelier Senka’s flower adornments have been embraced by numerous fashion designers and have quietly supported the fashion industry from the 1980s to the present day.
